BY SETH SPOTLIGHT: ATAULA CERAMICA
Ataula Ceramica Contemporanea started as a group of local artisans and workshops creating ceramics and tableware deeply rooted in Mexican traditions and culture. Today, under the leadership of owner Samantha Cendejas, they continue to combine handcrafted expertise of local artisans with contemporary style.
BY SETH: DESIGN PROCESS
After perfecting the glaze and shape with Seth, each piece was hand-drawn and 3D-modeled before Ataula created a working prototype. These pieces are slip-casted, which means liquid clay is poured into a mold by hand, casted and then polished before touching the fire.
BY SETH: FIRING AND GLAZING
Each piece is fired twice, first for strength, second to finish the glaze. The entire process takes around 4 weeks, which isn’t bad when you’re making a piece of art that’s meant to be used every day.
